Gyula Abay, until 1943 Gyula Neubauer (Budapest, 15 August 1891 - Budapest, 29 August 1978) economist, statistician, ministerial adviser, university professor, member of HAS and Szent István Academy.
In 1944 he was appointed a public teacher of the Department of Economics and Statistics of the Erzsébet University.
In 1946-47 he was a deacon of the faculty of law in 1947-48. In 1948 he was forced to retire from the university, and in 1949 he was classified as an advisory member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1952 he retired, later he was reduced again. He worked as a statistician in 1952-53 for the Little Coal Mining Trust in 1952-53. He worked as a bookkeeper at the Pécs Water Directorate in 1955-56.
For 1956, he was sentenced to six years imprisonment in 1957. From May to April 1959 he was sentenced to punishment, and he was released with amnesty. He wrote the Oeconomia Aeterna in Vác's Prison, which could not be released until the end of his life. In 1958, the MTA excluded him from its members. In 1989, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences rehabilitated and restored his academic correspondence.
